Spent Fuel Dry Transfer System
NSA staff completed the preliminary design and subcontracted the fabrication of a dry fuel transfer system (DTS) for utility spent fuel handling applications (see photos below). Demonstration testing of the DTS was performed at the Department of Energy's Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL).
The DTS is capable of X, Y, Z and rotate positioning of a full length LWR spent fuel assembly. The system was designed to transfer a spent fuel assembly from a receiving cask into a large dry storage canister. The DTS is computer controlled via a touch screen. Closed circuit television is incorporated to view the operations. Backup remote systems are built in to enable recovery in the event of failure of the primary actuators.
NSA can design and build a dry transfer system for your application, meeting all the DOE-RW quality requirements for spent fuel handling. We can provide you with a budget price after review of your requirements.
